People do avoid bank owned property sometimes. As you pointed out, they don't want to waste time. They are also likely to be getting most of their funds form their won bank and the sooner they can close the deal, is the sooner they can start living in the new home.

When it takes a long time to complete the transfer of a dwelling from one owner to another, people have to find another place to live in the meantime. This often results in additional expenses, since buyers have to pay rent for their old property or an intermediate property as well as mortgage on their new place.
