Our 2010 Windermere Northeast Office Holiday Event!

Last weekend we held our annual Santa Portrait and Holday Event in our Windermere Northeast office in Kirkland.  We had over 350 guests attend from 15 participating agents.  

Activities included Santa Portraits, latte cart, hot dogs, cookies, hot cider and chocolate.  We had a wonderful piano musician who played and sang holiday favorites.  One of the big hits for parents and children alike was the holiday craft area, where the kids built cute holiday projects.

Thank you to our wonderful clients who trust us with their real estate goals and who enthusiastically refer us to their friends and family!

I decided to move to Seattle after living in Chicago for 17 years.

Not only is he dealing with a days work of movers but he has offered to let a painter in to estimate and paint my home’s interior before I make it out there.

A Personal Story (That doesn't really have anything to do with real estate)

Recently gave my father (approaching 80 years) a  new mechanical automatic winding watch, which he loves. Afterward, we  chatted about his old watches (I remembered a Benrus in particular that he wore when I was a child).

He didn't have the one I remembered, but he pulled this old watch out of a COIN BOX!. It was missing the crystal, and as you can see, the face of the watch was damaged and discolored and the case was pretty well beat up.  This vintage Benrus watch belonged to his father (my grandfather).  He thinks it was purchased around 1946.

It has a 17 jewel swiss mechanical (wind up) movement and a 10k gold filled case with the fancy knotted lugs.

  

The hands were smashed against the face so it was impossible for them to move. When I got it home, I gently raised the hands to clear the raised numbers, wound the watch, and it worked perfectly....keeping excellent time.

I did some research and decided to restore the watch. I figured since it was running and keeping good time that the movement was probably fine.  I sent it off to have the movement serviced -- disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, oiled and regulated.  The dial was sent off to be restored (numbers removed, stripped to bare metal and repainted) and a new acrylic crystal (true to the period) was installed. The case was cleaned and polished. It also needed a new stem.  I finished it off with a simple French leather matching strap.

This old Benrus watch, purchased in 1946 is stunning.  I am thrilled with it.  I have worn it several times, proudly showing it off to anyone I could corner (complete with the "before" photo".  

My thoughts always went  straight to "I can't wait until Dad sees it."  I thought about it all the time.  Then the thoughts started drifting toward giving the old Benrus back to Dad.  I started to become compelled with the thought of returning it to him.

Last Sunday, Dad, and my step mom, Barb met us in Seattle for my grandson's birthday party.  I decided the old man needed an early father's day present.

I laid the old watch into a nice case along with the printed "before" photo and gave it to him on Sunday.

 
  
 
As you can see, he was touched.  My heart was full.  I hope this grand old man has an opportunity to wear this vintage Benrus watch for those coming grand occasions in his life for another 30 years or so.

Home Ownership -- It's about HOME. It's about LIFESTYLE

My clients Joel and Shawna are settling into their new home.  One of their home ownership goals was to have a good house and yard for a dog.  Within weeks of closing, they adopted Abby.  I  think you'll enjoy this.  I know I did!

Hi Greg, 

Things are starting to settle down for us.  We love the house and really appreciate your as a realtor and advisor.  I've attached a few pictures of Abby and we have a couple questions about our kitchen remodel.  

 Abby was 14 pounds we I picked her up.  She's up to 25 now.  The first 3 pictures   are Abby helping me unpack.  The 5th picture is her with an ice cube in her mouth.  Joel introduced ice to her water bowl which was fine at first but then she realized she could fish them out instead of bobbing for them.  Now we use them as a treat, she gets so excited.  The 6th picture is her watching TV.  She will watch Animal Planet for hours.  It's rather amusing for us, she runs after anything that moves off camera.  And the last one is her with a food puzzle.  She's too smart.  Keeping her busy keeps me busy :-)  We're currently battling with rocks.  She likes to bring them in and I throw them away.  Friday she brought one in and hid it under her bed.

 She was so proud when I came home until I noticed the lump under her bed.  

If dogs can look shocked, she did when I picked up her bed and took the rock.  

We're redesigning the kitchen/dinning room and upstairs family room.  I'd like to incorporate the existing dinning room into the kitchen with a large island and bench seat along the front lower window and turn the family room the new dinning room.  Do you think we'll suffer any loss if we did this?

Recently I listed and sold a home for the Hinthornes.  They were selling their Mother's long time home in East Bellevue.  We had some work to do to get ready for market.  We were very ready, positioned the house with the correct price and received a great offer that came together in just a little over two weeks and closed 3 weeks later.  Here are some impressions of that transaction from the Sellers:

 Thanks for your New Years blessings.  2010 HAS to be better than 2009 !!

The high point of our year was selling the house at such a great price.... and after a bidding war unheard of in a depressed economy !!  We're still talking about the speed in which the house was sold.  It certainly pays to have the right realtor who knows when to market a house and at what price.
